2010-07-22 2010 Junior Worlds – Budapest - Day 2
All the girls made weight with no problems and are ready to go. Did I mention that it is hot here, today is another scorcher at about 35 c. The venue is air conditioned but not much, it is extremely humid and is very similar to the Canada Cup. The good part is the CC training camp prepared us for these conditions.
44 Kg Ramona Balfour vs. JPN 0-1,0-4 loss (13th Place)
Nerves played a huge part in this first match on the part of both wrestlers. Ramona tried a head and arm at about 1:30 of the match but missed and lost the round by that point. In the second round she attempted a number of singles and high crotch attacks but had a difficult time trying to finish and lost the second round 4-0. We can only hope JPN will carry her through.

51 KG Karyanne Lacoursiere Roberge vs. TUR 0-1,clinch,2-3 loss (12th)
In the first round Karyanne did all the work but came up short in all her attacks . The TUR was about a foot taller and managed to pull Karyanne up off her double each time. She lost the flip and lost the first round to the clinch. In the second round Karyanne was a true inspiration of what Canadian wrestling is all about. She put everything into every attack and was winning 1-1 with seconds left. She had taken the Turk to her back but only got one point instead of three. In the last scramble they called Karyanne for exposure that was iffy at best but she scored the takedown to make it 2-3. Karyanne turned the Turk with an ankle turn just as time ran out and missed scoring 2 points by one second.
Karyanne wrestled great and it was just a shame that she lost such a close match.

59 Kg Olivia Gunnell vs. ISR 2-1, 5-0 win
Karyanne and Olivia were on at the same time so I am a little sketchy on her win. I do know that ISR kept attacking with a weak fireman’s and Olivia just played it smart and went behind each time. She wrestled very smart and took control of each round with a solid defence. She was confident from the start of the match and seemed in complete control.
59 Kg Olivia Gunnell vs. FRA 0-1,0-2 loss (13th)
It was simply a struggle that Olivia lost. FRA shot in and grinded out a single in the first round to win by one. In the second round it was more of the same. Although Olivia wrestled well FRA again powered through two single legs to win 2-0. It was not lack of heart or effort Olivia just came up short in her counters.

67 Kg Sidney Morrison vs HUN 0-2, 3-0, 1-4 loss (13th)
This was a tough match as the home town crowd was behind their girl. Sidney attempted two doubles but was shut down and the HUN got behind for a point each time to win by two in the first round. In the second round Sidney again went for a double and quickly switched to a bear hug and scored three and just missed a pin to win the round 3-0. In the third round Sidney again hit the double and came up to the bear hug but the HUN was ready and countered her to her back to score 3 points. From that point Sidney had to chase her and came up short and lost 1-4.
Again we seemed to be in control of the match but a small mistake cost us.

None of our girls made it back in the tournament, I will admit not the start we had hoped for, once again all our matches were very winnable.
The other girls, 48 Kg Jasmine Slinn, 55 Kg Brianne Barry, 63 Kg Danielle Lappage and 72 Kg Veronica Keefe all weigh in a few hours; we have to learn from today’s mistakes and take it to them tomorrow.
