Women's Competition

We're here at the Amadeu Texiataxitc stadium. It is a 10,000 seat arena next to the soccer stadium. The weather is much cooler today although the humidity is still very high. The girls are all in great spirits and have begun to warm up.

The start time has been changed to 15:00. But everything has been changed. Some times have changed three times in one day. And then there is the old bait and switch trick with the hotels. They publish a nice hotel as being the host hotel but change at the last minute to a couple of much inferior hotels. Welcome to the Pan Americans!

In spite of these irregularities the entire team has been completely un-phased. As a matter of fact, they seem genuinely amused by it all. The tournament is about to begin.

First up is Valerie Oulette from Bathurst N.B. at 48 Kg. She is facing Mollocana from Ecuador. Valerie gives up the first point on a single leg. Her next attempt is a failed head and arm. The Ecudaorean scores two. Round two Valerie gets caught in a cradle to the pin.

Next girl on the mat is Lisa Wianman from Burlington. She loses the first round 1-0.
Round two after the first minute its 2-1 for Lisa after a points review. Lisa has a leg ride on and just as her opponent is coming over the ref blows it up!! I'm losing it and its only our third match. You have 8 seconds to score on in par terre so I'm told. However it seems strange to me to be only a second from scoring two points and the ref blows it up? She loses the round and the match 4-4 based on criteria points.

Emily Schaan is up against Mexico. She scores three in the first round.
She wins the match>

Madison Parks is up against Ecuador. She scores three points on a perfect fireman’s. She wins round one. Round two Ecuador gets the first point on an out of bounds. The Ecuadorean attempts a head and arm. Madison avoids the throw and goes behind for one. The round ends 1-1 and the match goes to Madison.

Hannah Franson faces Brazil. The match is scoreless until the last 15 seconds and the Brazilian manages to go behind for a point. First round Brazil The score is 1-1 after 30. Hannah takes a chicken wing to a pin. Excellent job Hannah.

Madison Parks is up again against Brazil. Dominates the first round 7-0 with a series of dumps and two near pins.
Second round right off the bat, another dump to a pin. Madison is looking very confident and strong. Stay tuned.

Valerie Oulettte is up against Mexico. Valerie loses two rounds. A good try put not quite.

Liisa Waimann is up against Ecuador. Ecuador scores the first. Lisa comes back with four unanswered point.
Second round to Ecuador 2-1.
Third round; Ecuador goes ahead 1-0 in the first 20 seconds>

Hanah Franson is up against El Salvador. Hannah 3-2 first round 2l S.

Madison Parks against El Salvador. Dominates the match and wins with a stacked pin in the first.

After a stupid long break

Sarah Remillard against Ecuador loses by pin after being thrown with a 2 on 1 throw.

Valierie Godin against Brazil. Valerie goes behind twice off a front head and arm. Wins the first round 2-0
Round two: Valerie gets behind for one point. Wins the round 1-0 to win the match.

Maidson Parks vs Peru. Madison gets a double leg to a full lift for three. Wins the round 5-2
Round two; right off the opening whistle she executes a perfect double for three. A single and a tilt which goes into a pin.

I predict she will be a national junior Team member in a few years. Great poise, superb technique and a real feel for the sport.

This is where it got crazy and there was too much action for me to keep track of things. In the end we finished where we wanted to at the top of the podium.

Thanks for sending us with such a great bunch of girls.

Eoin White – Team Leader
